Choosing an emerald diamond
A step cut
Instead of the many small facets of a brilliant, an emerald cut has long parallel facets in steps. It gives broad flashes of light and a clear view into the stone, with cut corners that protect it.
How to choose one
Because you can see into an emerald cut, clarity matters more than with brilliant shapes; many people choose VS clarity or better. A ratio of about 1.3 to 1.5 is the classic rectangle.
Settings that suit it
Emerald cuts suit clean settings: a bezel, a slim solitaire band, a halo, or set east to west.
