Choosing an asscher diamond
An Art Deco icon
Created in the early 1900s by the Asscher family of diamond cutters, the asscher is a square emerald cut with deeply cropped corners. Its stepped facets draw the eye inward in concentric squares.
How to choose one
As with all step cuts, you can see into an asscher, so clarity matters; many choose VS or better. Look for a crisp, symmetrical windmill pattern.
Settings that suit it
Asschers shine in vintage-inspired settings, halos and simple solitaires.
