Choosing a cushion diamond
The cushion's character
With rounded corners and larger facets, a cushion gives broad flashes of light rather than the fine sparkle of a round. Some cushions show a 'crushed ice' sparkle and others a more defined pattern; it comes down to which you love.
How to choose one
Choose square (ratio near 1.0) or rectangular (about 1.15 and above). Cushions can show a little more body colour than rounds, so many people choose a slightly higher colour grade, especially in white metal.
Settings that suit it
Cushions are classic in a halo, which makes the stone look larger, and lovely in a simple solitaire or with pavé.
