Choosing a marquise diamond
Long and dramatic
A marquise is a brilliant cut, so it sparkles brightly, and its length gives it the largest-looking face of any shape for its carat weight. It lengthens the finger beautifully, or lies across it when set east to west.
How to choose one
Look for symmetry from point to point; a ratio of about 1.75 to 2.25 is most popular. Like other elongated brilliants it can show a bow-tie; choose one where it is soft.
Settings that suit it
Protect both points with V-prongs, a bezel or a halo.
